Andrea has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and a Masters in Elementary Education from the University of Massachusetts-Boston. She began her professional career as a design assistant in a luxury kitchen and design/build firm on the South Shore of Massachusetts. After several years of working in the interior design field Andrea switched gears and pursued a career in education. In her classroom she was able to integrate creativity and art seamlessly into her curriculum.
While taking a break from her career to focus on raising her young family Andrea picked up the paintbrush again. The moment the paint touched the canvas she felt a sense of clarity and calm that she had been missing during those years away from the studio. Soon, she realized that painting is her way of shedding the chaos and frenetic energy of a house filled with small children. In the studio, Andrea is able to take a small chunk of time and do something that is just for her. It allows her to recharge, recenter and work through feelings of anxiety.
To her, painting is simply putting onto canvas what she cannot put into words. This is evident in her work. Her use of color and texture communicate emotion and depth of feeling to the viewer. Often times she uses the title of a piece as a way to help convey the emotion and feelings she is translating.
